Earthquake

A few people have asked about the earthquake that hit DRC yesterday afternoon. It struck in the Eastern part of the country where there is a large rift that was the source of the Goma volcano eruption three years ago. The epicenter of the 6.8 quake was near Lake Tanganyika and the Tanzania border, well over 2,000 kilometers from Kinshasa, probably 1,200 miles away (the distance between Miami and NYC). I heard reports that tremors were felt in Luanda, Angola, which is probably farther away from the center than I am, but I did not feel anything here. There are reports of a several deaths due to collapsed buildings, but there is not a lot of information yet.
